Kaitiaki Rangers from Te Wai Mauri Limited, prepared the site and worked alongside rangatahi (youth) to plant approximately 900 riparian plants. Biodiversity Hawke's Bay provided the funding for the project and Ngāti Pārau rangatahi volunteered alongside the Kaitiaki Rangers as part of a wānanga.
This restoration work enhanced efforts underway by Ngāti Pārau and HB Regional Council to restore the fishery habitat in the wetland and estuarine area; and contributed to the goal of restoring this area into an abundant mahinga kai.
